My prob is our DVDs are all fantasy/scifi/comedy/action. Anyone got good horrormovies to lend? or watch with me?

Royal

Glasgow University is OUT...Royal College of Art is IN. I really really liked what I saw...and it's in London!! Oh, how wonderful that would be.

I went to a free picnic with Rebekah and her family today and got free food. Nom nom nom. It was good...her little nieces and nephew are absolutely adorable and we played ball.

I spent $103 on grocery shopping...that's what I get for going to Dorothy Lane Market.

I need to go to work...I have no time to update this thing!

Chaos! Mayhem! Dust

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
We have embarked on the redecoration of the living room. After scraping off 8 layers of wallpaper most of the plaster on the outside wall had fallen off, and the ceiling is looking none too healthy. Bruce started to dismantle the feature* brick fireplace only to discover whichever muppet put it it had removed the lintel... bugger! We now have to quickly find someone to come and make it safe before the plastering and stove is done.
The rest of the house is full of dust and displaced boxes which is making me grumpy! It will be worth it in the end though, when the room is done. We're going for dark red walls and dark paintwork, with a antique red leather chesterfield and Morris & Co. curtains in 'Compton'. Most importantly, there will be a wood burning stove (Aha! Take that rising gas prices!) and lots of lovely book shelves. I am badly itching to unpack the rest of my books...

Speaking of books, may I recommend ReadItSwapIt - swap your unwanted books for ones you do want! Genius!

I have been quite busy recently with all the house/baby/work stuff, but I'm sorting out my maternity leave and will soon have somewhat increased leisure time (until the baby is born of course...). I am desperately trying to sort out as much stuff as possible before then to go on eBay/Freecycle to clear space and make a few extra pennies, but it is a long and tedious task. I am also hoping to squeeze in a short break at La Rosa and the installation of some new doors and windows sometime soon, but we'll see...

I will try and sort out pictures from the faery festival and post them soon too!
So much to do...

*It's main feature being quite how unbelievably ugly it is...

New Painting - 'The forest at night'

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
I just finished this one today I wanted to get it completed today as Im back at the office until the weekend and I just couldnt leave it until then.

I have been working on it for the last 2 and half weeks or so.

I was really getting in touch with my inner child on this one and I have been a bit obsessed with owls lately, even having dreams of walking in the night and seeing owls.

Time to found Constantinople, methinks

So, just how bad is the American economy doing?

You've probably read that, after 130 years of being an American institution,
Anheuser-Busch was recently bought by a Belgian beverage company.

And, thanks to a good old-fashioned 1930's style bank-run,
Indymac has failed, and the government has had to prop up Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac
(something the administration previously said it would not do.)

But how about this one, folks.
The nation of Abu Dhabi has just bought the freaking Chrysler Building.

If I'm lyin', Ah'm dyin' dudes, lol.

The Oregon Trail

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Hello.

Recently I contracted dysentery, which was scary and horrifying at the same time. But, unlike the majority of my characters in The Oregon Trail, it did not kill me.

Life is going well. I've bad many visits from college friends which have all been a blast. Sheila and Joe were actually here for alumni weekend about a month ago and I haven't had that much fun in a long, long time. I want them to come back :( Better yet...I would like to be able to go visit my friends too! It's so hard though...with my work schedule and its about to get much harder when Stivers starts back up on August 11th. I cannot believe how fast the summer is going. I would ideally like to visit Joe, Katy, Steph, Melissa, and Sheila all before I end up leaving Dayton and going to grad school.

Which reminds me...I am beginning the process of applying for grad school, its still a little early, but at least I've researched a bunch of colleges and I know which one I'd like to go to the best...That would be Bard in New York (not the city, just outside it :) ) Tyler and Columbia are tied for second and then there's a slew of other colleges that are up for applications...
SVA, Parsons, ICP, Glasglow, New Mexico

Decisions, decisions. And we all kn ow how little I like those.

I've taken in a new cat...Orson, who is actually Kate's cat and will not be staying with us past August. I think I'll miss him. Tress likes to annoy him and always gets his ass beaten.

My mom got a Wii for her birthday and yesterday all Jason, the kids, and I did was play it. It's a lot of fun...Juliana and I made Miis of all the Harry Potter characters and then we made look-a-likes of ourselves because Jason was having a fit about us not playing Miis that actually look like us. My arm is sore from playing it...really sore. It's really funny. I think I'll eventually invest in a Wii and WiiFit to work out. Which I need to do more of since my gym is still taking out $21 a month and I haven't gone in two months practically. I need to motivate myself. Maybe I'll go tomorrow.

The Dark Knight was fantastic. I love it. I love the joker. I am more sad that Heath Ledger is dead now. I liked how they foreshadowed Catwoman though and I can't wait for the next one :) And Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince.

There is a strange bug in my house right now...it's actually kind of frightening so I think I'm going to leave this place that it's currently occupying and go downstairs to finish The Confessions of Mr. Tivoli and then maybe watch some Lord of the Rings...if I make it. I go to bed very early these days.

Okay, this is a must-do, very simple thing you can do, whether life's been a demeaning black hole of stress, or even if everything's been sprouting happy daisies-go out right this minute and rent "Penelope", then watch it at least once....the side effects are truly marvelous. :)

just kidding. Gonna fix that.

It's Tool Time!

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Any experts on tools? I have one power tool, that sands and has a couple of straight saw blades, and I did manage to hack an opening for a dormer out of the roof with it, but it was a real chore. Now I've bought an addition, and I need to cut doorways in both the house body that's already assemebled and in the 'liners' of the addition on that side. I'm looking at Dremel Gyro and mini circular saws, and Alice did better in Wonderland than I'm doing in online toolstores. No local mini store for tools/advice.

The bottom line is, I need something that will fairly easily cut through 3/8" plywood, that can plunge right in, so to speak, and give me a straight clean line and not tear it up. Suggestions are most welcome!

The Long and Winding Goat Hill with Free Music on Top

Add to Memories Tell a Friend
Last year, my parents bought me a cheap bike at thrift store. I rode it once. Last week, I dusted it off, oiled the chains, re-inflated the tires, and rode it again. Now I'm doing so every few days. I was out on it tonight in fact. Aside from being horribly out of shape, I noticed one problem. After biking 30 minutes around my hilly neighborhood, my legs burning, I pull up to my apartment and moan when I see the steps.

The staff calls my apartment Goat Hill, because there are a lot of craggy steps that wind up a hill before you even reach the stairs. So after severe pain in my legs and out of breath, I have to carry that dang bike up ALL those stairs to my apartment. I think I'm ready to move!

-- Quote of the Week: Old Man at the Two Windmills: "Still, true love does exist."
Suzanne, Owner Two Windmills bar: "I know. After 30 years behind a bar, I'm an expert. I'll even give you the recipe. Take two regulars, mix them together and let them stew. It never fails."
from Amelie.

-- CD of the Week: The FuMP CD, Vol. 9. It features two songs by yours truly. It's now on sale in The FuMP music store.

-- Speaking of CDs... You can order my CDs by mail. If you don't have a credit card. Or CD Baby, the great site that it is, allows you to pay by check or a dozen other ways. Check it out.

-- Autoharp for Sale. I've put one of my autoharps up for sale. Want to own a piece of me? Now you can. If you want something a little I just received word that my Celtic Knot Necklaces made from broken autoharp strings, are now completed. They're being mailed to me. Sadly, I want get them until after I get back from Louisiana. But you can order one now anyway.

-- Have you listened to my music today? One of the great things about working on a computer is that you can listen to my music even if you forget to bring your CDs or iPod to work. That's because I have a lot of music online. You can listen via SoundClick, Myspace, or ReverbNation. Or you can "tune in" to an internet radio stations like Highlander Radio or Ren Radio where you can request my music. Plus, I have podcasts you can download any day of the week. Listening is fun and easy... in fact, if you don't watch out, it will turn into a habit that will bring a smile to your each and every day.
